Dr Mariusz Bosiak & Prof. Andrzej Wolan
Experts in the field of chemistry and organic synthesis, both earned a doctorate in chemical sciences from the Faculty of Chemistry at Nicolaus Copernicus University. They worked on isolating, synthesizing, and applying natural compounds belonging to the terpene group commonly found in the plant world. Dr Mariusz Bosiak used them in his PhD thesis as excellent reagents during the synthesis of biologically active compounds. Prof. Andrzej Wolan gained essential experience working with natural compounds during a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles in Gif sur Yvette, which is dedicated to research on the isolation, identification, and determination of the activity of natural organic compounds.Dr Mariusz Bosiak and Prof. Andrzej Wolan became interested in the molecule xanthohumol while searching for natural dyes from the group of flavonoids, chalcones, and anthocyanins for use as materials for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells. It is also noteworthy that Dr Mariusz Bosiak is an experienced amateur brewer, and he gained his first experience with xanthohumol by extracting it from hop cones.
